We Quit

Well, long time, no see! You read it - we quit. After months and months of deliberation, we finally did it. We’re spending the next 7 months travelling round Asia and then we’re moving to CANADA! At this moment in time we’re gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime and we’re excited to take you with us! We’ve created an entire Instagram that is going to be dedicated to our travels and you can follow it on @otterstravels. We’ve been thinking long and hard about what we want our travel vlogs and IG to consist of and we think it’s worth getting excited about! We would love to hear from you guys about what you would be interested to see while we’re out and about too. Otters Kitchen will remain fully in tact and we will be incorporating that into our videos along side our everyday adventures. Edinburgh is going to be our first stop. We have a whole 6 days to make the most out of Fringe 2019 and this is where our vlog adventure will begin (if we remember and get use to picking a camer...

#41 Almost Famous, Manchester

Image
Our Order River Phoenix £9.50 (Double cheeseburger, bacon, shoestrings onions, Frazzles, red chilies, Redneck BBQ, Bacon Bacon mayo, Smoky Bacon Ketchup) DTF £10 (Extra thick juicy patty, double American cheese, bacon, wonder onions, smoky bacon ketchup, dijon mustard, peppered mayo, pickles) Chilli Cheese Tots £5.50 (Tots, cheese, beef chilli, hot sauce, sour cream, jalapeno, onion) £25 8/10 After struggling to find Almost Famous on the Saturday, we were sure to find the place on Sunday. We had checked the menu on the Saturday and we were really excited to jump into it, especially after feeling the vibes as soon as we walked through the door. It wasn't too busy but you could feel the buzz. We struggled to settle on something for a while but my heart was telling me to go for the River Phoenix immediately purely for the Frazzles - I really wanted something different. The frazzles added a great texture to the burger, I just wanted more. It sounded like it was almost going to...

#40 Yard&Coop, Manchester

Image
Our Order: Thighs, Blue Cheese Sauce, Salt & Pepper Chips £12.50 Double Mac £16 ( Two buttermilk chicken breasts, sandwiched with mac n cheese, crispy bacon, Dr Pepper BBQ and cheese sauces. Topped with two Dr Pepper BBQ wings.) Extra Buffalo Sauce £1 £29.50 9/10 After wandering round for about half an hour, looking for Almost Famous, we had no luck so we headed into Yard & Coop instead.  The place was filled to the brim and had a great atmosphere (and an ever better drinks menu). The variety of beers they offer is something and there was also a good few options for cocktails too. Both had nothing on the food menu though. Making a decision of something to eat was so hard as we both wanted everything on the menu, especially after seeing the food coming out of the kitchen. I was torn between trying the Dr Pepper sauce and the buffalo sauce so decided to go with the Double Mac with a side of buffalo because I'm greedy and refuse to regret not eating something. It was s...

#39 Mac & Wild, Fitzrovia, London

Image
Our Order: Haggis Pops £5.50 Venison Scotch Egg £6.50 Venimoo Burger ( Beef patty, venison patty, cheese, béarnaise & caramelised onions - served in a seeded bun) £12 Wilderness Chips ( Sticky Black Isle lager & whisky sauce, crispy shallots & candied bacon) £5 £29 (Prices could be wrong - I've thrown away the receipt, my bad) 9/10 We really enjoyed it here. Jed has been eyeing Mac & Wild up for the longest time on Instagram and seeing as we were finally coming to London, we gave it a go. It immediately had a really fun vibe and we loved the industrial theming of the restaurant. Not to mention the music was amazing. We decided there was too much on the menu to miss out so went for their Venimoo burger to share as well as the Wilderness chips, venison scotch egg and haggis pops on the side. The service was quick and the food came in good time so we both jumped right into the haggis pops which were incredible. We're really big fans of Haggis and these ...

#38 Annie's Burger Shack, Nottingham

Our Order: Jolly Rancher £7.50 Ape Ale £4.50 The Buffalo Ranch £12.90      + Creamy Garlic Sauce £0.75 The Johnny Vegas £12.90      + Sweet Potato Fries £1.50 ~£40.05 11/10 We've been excited to come here since the day we started this thing and now we've been, we're even more excited to go back. With over 30 burgers on the menu, this is really THE place to be. We got to Annie's at about 12:15pm and the place was already heaving. The atmosphere of the place was really good - the music was fun and you could just sense that everyone was having a good time. After a while of flicking back and forth through the menu we finally settled on our choices. First of all, I have to mention how good the Jolly Rancher cocktail was. If you love cherry and/or lime flavours, you have to try this. I have no words. It tasted just like pop so you could easily get through 10 of them. Let's start with The Johnny Vegas. A patty topped with crispy bacon, warm toff...

#37 Red Dog Saloon, Nottingham

Our order: Dark Plate, Reg £12.50 Guerilla Fries £2.50 Philly Cheeseburger £12.50 Amaretto & Coke £4.45 Wild River PT £5.50 £37.45 9/10 After arriving in Nottingham, we were pretty damn hungry and knew we were in for a big night so we popped into Red Dog Saloon for a bite to eat. Immediately, the service was great. We were seated in the bar area so we had to go and order our food but it really wasn't an issue. Before we get into the food, we just want to say that this place was initially a 10/10 but once we compared it to everything else we ate that weekend, it just wasn't on par. Red Dog was amazing, it just so happened that everything else was even better. I went for the Dark Plate of Southern Fried Chicken which consisted of 2 legs and a thigh. It was seriously yummy. Obviously cooked to order as it came to the table steaming hot. The coating on the chicken was cooked to perfection. It was a little crispy but the chicken was still so so so juicy and everything ...

#36 Pizza Punks, Newcastle

Image
Our Order: Sherbet Cherry £7 Venom £5 Say Cheese!Burger £9 ( Red Sauce / Applewood Smoked Cheddar / Meatballs / Burger Relish / Pickles Make Your Own Pizza £10 (Red Sauce / Mozzarella / Goats / Parmesan/ Egg / Haggis / Chipotle & Chocolate Pulled Pork / Caramelized Red Onion / Newcastle Ale Beef Brisket) Mallowdramatic £7 Blonde Star £5 £43 10/1 0 After a 4.5+ hour drive up to Newcastle, and then a 15 minute walk through the snow and ice, we were pretty damn hungry! Pizza Punks was the first place we saw so we headed straight in and we did not regret this decision! We got there at just the right time as they'd been turning people away but just happened to have a table by the time we arrived. The atmosphere was great, the music even better and the staff were super friendly too. I had spotted the Cheeseburger pizza on the menu before we went in and knew I had to try it! It was a really good choice. Topped with Cheddar, Meatballs, Relish & Pickles, didn't quite taste...

#35 The Distillery, Leicester

Image
Our Order Margarita Arancini Duck Croquettes Crab & Prawn Mac & Cheese Bites (3 sides for £8) Festive Burger £11.75      + Sweet Potato Fries 0.50p £19.75 10/10 We walk past The Distillery on an almost daily basis and decided that we would finally give it a go and my god, it was a good choice! We've peaked at the menu before and were looking at the ultimate burger but never really felt like going in, this was until last Saturday. We were shocked at how busy the place was but given Leicester had just played, it should have been a given. After looking at the menu, we settled on sharing the Ultimate Burger and the 3 sides - Margherita Arancini, Duck Croquettes and Crab & Prawn Mac & Cheese Bites. That was until we saw the Christmas menu. After seeing the Festive Burger, we knew we needed it. We weren't wrong. The food came relatively quickly which we were impressed with given how busy the place was and to look at, everything was really appealing....

#34 Bronco's Rodeo, Sheffield

Image
Our Order: J2o £2.50 Mocca £2.50 American Burger £8.75 Blue Burger £9.75 £23.50 9/10 Just before we get started, I would like to say that overall there is nothing wrong with this place - the food was really good & the vibes were good, we understood the quirkiness of it. BUT compared to the food we had the previous day, there was no way we could give it a 10. Maybe if we had gone on a different day or possibly even first, it would be a 10, but everything we had had on the Saturday was so so incredible that it would be unfair to hold Bronco's to the same standard. Now that's out the way... We stumbled on this place by complete accident and immediately wanted in. We got there really early so we were the only ones in their but service was good - the waitresses were friendly and chatty and the food came relatively quickly. Now I went for the American Burger as I wasn't overly hungry and I figure, if you can't get a good ol' American Burger down, you proba...

#33 Pie Minister, Sheffield

Image
Our Order: Freedom Larger £4.80 Raspberry Beret £7.95 Pie & 2 Sides £8.95 Kate & Sidney Pie      + Garden Peas      + Mash The Mothership £9.50 Mistlemoo Pie      + Mash      + Minty Mushy Peas      + Cheddar      + Crispy Shallots £31.20 10/10 We don't even know where to begin with this place. Easy one of the best places we have ever eaten. We walked in and were pre-warned that there was a group of 30 guests so we may be waiting which wasn't a problem to us and turns out there wasn't a wait either. It seemed like there was only two waiters working but the customer service was still great. Nothing to complain about from the minute we sat down. Everything from the menu & prices, to the decor & music was right! I went with the Raspberry Beret to drink which was a cocktail that sounded completely up my street from the first word - Vodka, ...

#32 The Lucky Fox, Sheffield

Image
Our Order: Williamsburger £8 Chick'n Waffles £8 Chilli Fries £3 £16 10/10 We timed our adventure into here quite well! It's a tiny little venue and it seems like pot luck to get a seat but at the same time, the staff are helpful enough to get tables cleaned up and ready for waiting customers as soon as they possibly can. Despite how small crowded the restaurant looks, once you're seated, you're not really on top on one another so it doesn't make too much of a difference. Let me just jump right in and tell you how good the food is. I love fried chicken (when it's done right) at the best of times so I fell in love with the first bite of chicken. Jed isn't as bothered about chicken as I am but even he loved this place. The food came quickly despite the place being rammed and the service was good. The Chick'n Waffles was exactly that. Chicken & Waffles. 5 sizable pieces of chicken on 2 clearly homemade waffles with cinnamon butter & maple syr...

#31 Fusion, Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry

Our Order: Chicken Balls (Sweet Chilli Sauce) £6.95 Ocean Burger £7.50 Salt & Pepper Chips £2.75 £17.20 7.5/10 We decided to drop by Fusion as we were seeing David O'Doherty on Saturday night wanted to try something around the area. We found Fusion online and we're lured in by the Ocean Burger due to it's pink bun. We really liked the atmosphere of the place as the rugby was on TV and it was really calm. The menu gave plenty of choice and I was stuck between the wings and chicken balls before settling on the chicken balls. In all honesty, I don't know what we were expecting taste wise, but the menu and the photo of the Ocean Burger we're enough for us. Jed went with the Ocean Burger and I did have a bite but it really wasn't for me. Topped with Asian slaw & curried mayo, they were just flavours that didn't mix well with the tumeric salted battered fries. I didn't hear any complaints from Jed and he did demolish the thing so I can only assum...

#30 Big Society, Oxford

Image
Our Order: Chicken Burger £9.50 Dirty Burger £13 Buffalo Fries (Small) £4.75 Deep Fried Pickles £3.50 £30.75 9/10 Again, another Instagram search made us make our way over to Big Society. (I'm seeing a trend tbh). After walking round Oxford in the rain we got into Big Society and loved the vibe. It was warm and welcoming and the staff were really friendly. We also spotted a ping pong table and foosball so it seems like a fun place to have a drink even if you don't eat there. The food came out on tray and we were given a plate each which is great if you're looking to share everything, which we usually do so it was handy for us. Jed went for the Dirty burger which was a beef patty, pulled pork, bacon, double cheese, an onion ring, bbq sauce in a Brioche bun and tbch, it was better than the 7Bone Burger Co. burger. Everything just kinda married together that little bit betters so it made for a real solid burger. My chicken burger, however, wasn't as good as 7Bon...

#29 7Bone Burger Co., Reading

Image
Our order: Triple B      + Chilli Cheese Fries (Dirty Basket Deal) £11.95 Dreadlock Rasta      + Portswood Poutine (Dirty Basket Deal) £11.95 Delirium £4.50 Dr. Polska £6 £34.40 10/10 After a (very) quick search on Instagram for somewhere to eat in Reading, we knew we had to come to 7Bone. It was just round the corner from our hotel so it was absolutely perfect for these starving otters. Once we walked through we door, we loved the industrial feel of the place. It almost looked unfinished but it gave really good vibes. The menu left us struggling to make a decision because everything looked amazing so after many mind changes, we finally ordered. I can tell you know, we made great choices. Jed's Triple B burger was delicious. Whilst we both thought the meat was going to come a little bit pinker than it did, it was still nicely cooked. There was still a hint of pink in the patty but either way, it was a really sold burger. The Triple B c...

#28 Bison Bar & BBQ, Dublin

Image
Our Order Tiger €6.00 1/2 Smoked & Roasted Chicken €13.95 Sweet Potato Fries €3.95 Smoked Beef Brisket Melt – Real Red Cheddar €10.95 Crispy Garlic Potatoes €3.95 Total €30.70 (27.24) 10/10 We've been following Bison on Instagram for a while now and I knew we had to go in at some point. We can confused at the door because we have blonde moments from time to time so just be warned, the door is a pull and its heavy so give it a good pull! We were the only ones in there at the time but we could tell it had a really fun atmosphere. You seat yourself and order at the bar which I find quirky for a BBQ grill type restaurant but it's really nice touch and we like being able to order as soon as we're ready rather than waiting. I had decided earlier in the day I was going to have the 1/2 roasted chicken because they has posted about it earlier in the day but once I saw the menu, I got distracted. Especially by the Buttermilk Chicken Thigh Burger as I looove chicken th...

#27 The Norseman, Dublin

Image
Our Order 2 x Guinness €6.60 Each Ladder Steak €18.50 Beef & Guinness Pie €14.75 Total €46.45(£41.25) 10/10 We found this place at what was the end of Temple Bar for us. We walked past it a few times before deciding to go in for something to munch down on and it was a great decision. It wasn't too big as upstairs wasn't open so we sat at the bar for our food. Obviously, we had to order a Guinness each and I did ask for some blackcurrant in mine but it was a Guinness none the less. As if the full pint wasn't enough for me, I ordered the Beef & Guinness pie because again, I obviously had to and it would've been rude not to. Another shortcrust pastry that I actually really enjoyed. It wasn't hard and overcooked at all, it was really soft and the flavour of it really complimented the filling. The beef was also paired with onions which were cooked so well that you couldn't tell they were there and they also didn't over power the flavour which I f...

#26 Bar & Block, Birmingham

Image
Our Order: Brewdog Punk IPA £4.40 Raspberry Fizz £6.99 8oz Rump £11.95    + Chips    + Spicy Sauce £1.50 8oz Rump £11.95    + Parm Fries    + Peppercorn Sauce £1.50 Total £38.79 9/10 We happened to stumble across this place on our way to a gig in Birmingham and thought we'd give it a go. It has a really chic and modern atmosphere to it and although it was slightly dim, it gave a more relaxed feel whilst you were eating. The menu offers a great choice of different burgers and other plates as well as their steaks but we thought we'd give the steaks a go as we don't do it too often. First of all, my cocktail was delicious. Absolut Raspberri Vodka with fresh raspberries and lemon, topped with lemonade. It was really sweet and you couldn't taste the alcohol in it at all which is exactly what I like. Would definitely recommend. Then the steaks. They came relatively quick which we were happy with and we were overall impressed with everythi...

#25 The Holyrood 9a, Edinburgh

Image
Our Order Plum & Vanilla Gin £3.60 (+ Lemonade £1.10) £4.70 x 2 The Original £9.75 + Sweet Potato Fries £1.25 The Black Deer £12.50 + Haggis £1 Total £33.90 8.5/10 We popped in here due to being absolutely fucking knackered after days of walking round Edinburgh on minimal sleep. We were looking for a decent burger and that's exactly what we got. Due to being so tired, I wasn't overly hungry so I went for The Original (I also figured, if they couldn't do a simple burger then what could they do, hey?) I went for a side of sweet potato fries to mix it up. Jed went for The Black Deer, a venison & black pudding patty with a beetroot chutney & blue cheese with a side of haggis. The food came relatively quick & we were impressed. My original burger was done well. I did end up adding mustard about half way through cause the flavour got a little bit samey for me but the sweet potato fries were pretty damn good. Looking back, maybe I should've added the ...

#24 The Newsroom, Edinburgh

Image
Our Order Ron Burgundy £8.25 Joker IPA £4.85 Steak & Guinness Pie £13 Haggis, Neeps & Tatties £10 Total £36.10 8.5/10 We walked past The Newsroom on our first day in Edinburgh, coming from our hotel to the Royal Mile. We looked at the menu and thought it looked good but we'd just got there so needed to go and explore first! The next day we were watching something in the VooDoo Rooms and the best option for our time limit was to go to The Newsroom. The vibes were really good in there, high energy & a modern look. It was full every time we walked past so they're clearly doing something right! I went for the Ron Burgundy cocktail, Ron Zacapa 23 Centenario Rum, Cherry Marnier, Mozart Dark, Chocolate Liqueur, Aztec Dark Chocolate Bitters & Maple Syrup. I went for this thinking it would be sweet but also knowing that I was going out on a limb because I like more fruity flavours than sweet. I was right. Whilst I appreciate that this is probably a really good...

#23 The Coach And Horses, Kibworth

Image
Our Order Apple & Raspberry J2o Stella Beef & Ale Pie - 2 for £12 Lasagna - 2 for £12 Chips Total £20.40 (I think) 10/10 Yet another meal where I didn't pick up the receipt so my apologies but I do remember that our meals where on a 2 for £12 offer and I'm certain the total came to £20.40. We go past The Coach And Horses on a daily basis but we've never been in and after our trip to Bali & Manila, we were craving some good old English pub grub (despite the fact Jed went for the lasagna). Thankfully, that's exactly what we got. The Coach And Horses is a snug little pub in Kibworth, Leicester and it's definitely worth visiting as we found out. Good service from the get go and throughout and the food came quickly. I was hesitant when I saw that my pie was a shortcrust pastry as I don't normally like it and I prefer the flaky pastry. But I tucked in I'm so glad I went with it. It was delicious. A thick gravy inside with tender beef and th...
