We walk past The Distillery on an almost daily basis and decided that we would finally give it a go and my god, it was a good choice! We've peaked at the menu before and were looking at the ultimate burger but never really felt like going in, this was until last Saturday.
We were shocked at how busy the place was but given Leicester had just played, it should have been a given. After looking at the menu, we settled on sharing the Ultimate Burger and the 3 sides -
Margherita Arancini, Duck Croquettes and Crab & Prawn Mac & Cheese Bites. That was until we saw the Christmas menu. After seeing the Festive Burger, we knew we needed it. We weren't wrong.
The food came relatively quickly which we were impressed with given how busy the place was and to look at, everything was really appealing. We started with the burger. Stacked high with a beef patty, bacon, mature cheese sauce, turkey, pork, orange & fig stuffing, cranberry sauce and topped with 2 pigs in blankets. It sounds like a lot. It was a lot. But it was one of the most delicious things we have ever put in our mouths.
The main flavour we got was the pork and orange & fig stuffing but for us, it was amazing. I think we maybe would've had more diverse bites had we not shared the burger but it really wasn't an issue. The different sauces came through occasionally and whilst you couldn't taste every single element in every bite, I think it would have been a very different burger without them all.
The sides. Out of the three, the most disappointing was the Mac & Cheese bites. This doesn't mean they're bad but the Duck Croquettes and Margarita Arancini were just so flavourful and delicious that the Mac & Cheese didn't compare. My personal favourite was the Aranchini, deep fried rice balls filled with tomato and melted cheese with a side of Peri Peri mayo, you just couldn't go wrong with them. I think Jed preferred the Duck Croquettes which are exactly what they sound like and again, completely delicious and full of flavour.
Overall, I'm just really disappointed that it's taken us so long to eat here. Really fantastic food with a really good vibe and a fun menu. We highly recommend this place!
