We walked past The Newsroom on our first day in Edinburgh, coming from our hotel to the Royal Mile. We looked at the menu and thought it looked good but we'd just got there so needed to go and explore first! The next day we were watching something in the VooDoo Rooms and the best option for our time limit was to go to The Newsroom.
The vibes were really good in there, high energy & a modern look. It was full every time we walked past so they're clearly doing something right!
I went for the Ron Burgundy cocktail, Ron Zacapa 23 Centenario Rum, Cherry Marnier, Mozart Dark, Chocolate Liqueur, Aztec Dark Chocolate Bitters & Maple Syrup. I went for this thinking it would be sweet but also knowing that I was going out on a limb because I like more fruity flavours than sweet. I was right. Whilst I appreciate that this is probably a really good cocktail for someone else, it just wasn't for me.
The food came relatively quickly and the waitress was really friendly too. Jed went for the Haggis, Neeps & Tatties as we really like to try local foods when we travel. We had already tried Haggis in the burger Jed ordered the day before and we knew we liked it so he took the plunge and went for Haggis, Neeps & Tatties. It was pretty good. The mash was pretty smooth but he did mention that there were a few lumps every now and again, but the rest of it was really good. You occasionally get the flavour of the parsnip come through which added a nice twang to the potatoes as well as the haggis. All the flavours worked well together and the pepper sauce really complimented all the other flavours and textures.
I went for my standard Steak (and Guinness) pie and. It. Was. Great. My vegetables were slightly cold but it really wasn't an issue, especially because the pie was piping hot so I just dipped them in the gravy. It also came with a flaky pastry which is just my most favourite thing.
Overall, a really good eat. Totally suggest it if you're in the area!
