We popped in here due to being absolutely fucking knackered after days of walking round Edinburgh on minimal sleep. We were looking for a decent burger and that's exactly what we got.
Due to being so tired, I wasn't overly hungry so I went for The Original (I also figured, if they couldn't do a simple burger then what could they do, hey?) I went for a side of sweet potato fries to mix it up. Jed went for The Black Deer, a venison & black pudding patty with a beetroot chutney & blue cheese with a side of haggis.
The food came relatively quick & we were impressed. My original burger was done well. I did end up adding mustard about half way through cause the flavour got a little bit samey for me but the sweet potato fries were pretty damn good. Looking back, maybe I should've added the fries to the burger to to add a different texture and taste to the burger (that's something you guys could do instead!).
Jed's came and it was pretty impressive. The chunks of cheese really stacked the burger out. I had a bite and in that one bite alone, you got a mix of the patty, cheese and chutney. Their regular fries are pretty alright, generic skinny fries but once you smother them in any kind of sauce, they do become moreish.
However, the patty tasted exactly the same as mine and whilst both of our burgers were pretty different, they didn't differ too much in flavour.
We would definitely recommend The Holyrood 9a to anyone looking for a burger in a really chic establishment with the chance to have a drink after. It was worth the money.
The only reason we couldn't rate this any higher is our waitresses weren't consistent, and 1 of the 3 seemed a little bit annoyed with anything we said to her but as always, that's pick of the draw.
Enjoy!
