We walked past The Fish & The Chip a few weeks ago and said we'd head in next time we were in town. Well, last Saturday was that day.
We were immediately impressed with the menu. 11 vegan dishes & 36 gluten free dishes! Now, we're neither but we loved how inclusive they are and how much choice they have for everyone.
We started, as always, by looking at the drinks menu, which was impressive. I was undecided between the Candy Floss Daquiri and The Unicorn but I thought The Unicorn would be too milky for my liking so ended up getting the Daquiri. It was nice and the candy floss came in a separate glass to the Daquiri so you got to mix them together yourself but after the novelty of it, the drink itself was just slightly too strong for a Saturday afternoon (my bad).
Then the food. Jed went for the fish burger as it's something he makes at home if he needs a fast dinner anyway. I tried a bite and the fish was delicious - a nice and light flavour and it tasted so fresh. My masala spiced fish came as a nice big piece of fish and the chips on both plates were delicious. The only thing I would say about the masala fish is that the flavour is very strong. I was going to go for the jerk fish but because it wasn't on the lunch menu I went for the masala instead. I don't eat curry all that much so I'm not going to rate The Fish And The Chip down for something that was my own fault. I tasted Jed's fish burger which is their original fish and that was really nice so I know that it was just my tastebud's that made me wish that my flavour of fish was fish balls instead of a full fish.
They also hold different events like a Beer Tasting Evening by Freedom (June 29th, £15) and a Gin Tasting Evening by Fever Tree (July 26th, £25) which I think is great fun for an indie Fish & Chip shop. We're probably going to attend the beer tasting night but not the gin tasting as we'll be in Bali/Manila then but overall we think everything they offer (including match day offers) is really good and would definitely recommend it as well as go back ourselves!
