We had popped into Home Sweet Home the night before for a cocktail and really liked the vibe and the atmosphere in the restaurant (and also got really distracted by the cakes) so we decided to come back the next day for brunch.
Jed was more in a breakfast mood so was torn between the Breakfast Burrito and the Steak Benny before finally settling on the Steak Benny. I was in a chicken mood and luckily for me they did offer a couple of fried chicken options so I went for the Chicken In A "Basket".
They both came in a good time and Jed started bragging about how good his looked and whilst he was right, mine tasted so much better than his.
The main problem Jed found with his Steak Benny is that it came with way more avocado than he was expecting and not enough hollandaise sauce but I did try some of his steak and that was really nice. The steak came medium rare, just how we both like it and it was perfectly seasoned so whilst Jed wasn't ecstatic with his meal, it was steal nice and he appreciated that for someone else, that amount of avocado would have been okay.
Now, my chicken. It was incredible. I was expecting it to be greasy but it really wasn't. It was delicious, lots of flavour and the chicken its self was juicy. The chips we great which have found can usually be left behind a little bit but the gravy was something else. It was a gravy chicken and it was extremely thick and matched the chicken and chips greatly (I may have even dipped some steak into the sauce and it was a good combo!).
We had decided the night before that if we were going to come back for lunch, then we were gonna go for the White Chocolate and blueberry muffin cake because we're both suckers for white chocolate. It was topped with thick, sweet icing & had a mini muffin on top which was actually kind of dry. All of their cakes are three tiers and for £4.50 we don't really think you can complain about that.
We enjoyed our time there for the most part however towards the end we found the service dropped. We were sat in our own area for a little while but as we were mid meal, a group of 7 came in but were placed at 2 separate tables and we're extremely loud and awkward so we understand that they were preoccupied with that but I found myself asking for dessert as they were taking our plates because I didn't know when she was going to come back and same goes for the receipt.
Overall, Jed just thinks he should have picked something else because he understands that other people would enjoy his choice, it was just too much avocado for him and service was fine until other tables were in the same area as us. Would recommend to anyone looking for an almost american style dinner.
