We spent the Bank Holiday in London and popped over to Shoreditch after seeing Black Bear Burger and Nosteagia on Instagram. They're both located in the Boxpark pop-up mall which offers shopping, food and different events.
We were starving so it was exciting to see all the different food places that Boxpark has to offer. It was slightly disappointing to see that Black Bear only has 3 different burgers on its menu but we still wanted to try it anyway. I went for the Black Bear Burger which was great - a patty, with cheese, onion jam, bacon and garlic mayo and everything worked really well together. The patty itself was cooked really nicely and you could taste the meat through everything else. Jed's was more disappointing for saying he went for a bigger burger. He picked the Brisket burger which comes with a patty, cheese, 12hr beer braised brisket, pink pickled onions and garlic mayo but everything tasted the same. His burger was slightly more cooked than mine but I don't think that should've effected the taste so much.
The fries were nothing special and I think that mixed with the lack of choice and how hot the seating area was is why we weren't overly sold on it. Black Bear do give you the option for adding an extra patty for £2 if you are feeling it but be prepared to get in a mess.
After we ate we went for a wander round Boxpark and the atmosphere was really fun. It was filled with people & music and seems like a great place to hang out with friends.
On our way out we headed to Nosteagia - the bubble waffle specialist. You have the option of choosing your own toppings or picking from their menu. We went for the Bananarama (banana and nutella) and added a scoop of vanilla ice-cream just because of how hot everywhere was. The waffle was good and the toppings were refreshing which we needed but ... it was just a waffle. I think we went into it with higher expectations because of the aesthetic which is our own fault but it is what it is.
We enjoyed Boxpark itself and would suggest it to anyone going that way but we set ourselves up for a fall. By no means was any of the food bad, but with the heat and our expectations, we were just slightly let down.
