Vanilla frosting
1 1/2 tspn almond extract flavouring
Butter
Whisk
Rolling pin
4 cake tins
1 big mixing bowl
3 regular bowls
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
- Sieve cake mix into big mixing bowl .
- Add your eggs and water gradually.
- Mix until smooth.
- Add 1 1/2 tspns of almond flavouring.
- Separate your mix into three bowls.
- Add the colourings to create a pink mix, a blue mix and purple mix.
(red for pink, a drop of blue to create a pale blue, both for purple) - Butter your cake trays thoroughly.
- Spoon your mix into the trays to for clear definition between the colours then make sure the mix is level in the tray before popping into the oven. We did 4 layers but you can obviously have as many as you want, just be sure that there is even distribution between all trays so all the layers are even.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes .
- Allow to cool.
- Use a knife to level your cakes.
- Add the vanilla frosting and cherry jam between each layer.
- Sprinkle flour on a level surface.
- Roll out a chunk of icing big enough to cover the entire cake.
- When happy with the size and thickness, pick up and place over cake ensuring that the icing is completely smooth.
- Cut around the bottom of the cake to get rid of any excess.
- Roll all left over icing into a cone shape that you're happy with as this will make the horn of the unicorn.
- Add a drop of water to the base of the horn (this will help it stick) and then place on top of cake.
- Paint and decorate the rest as desired.
- Enjoy!
